AKA Jan Dara 2 (2004) Wanniang
Summary After ten years of self-imposed exile Taep (Andy Tangkapasert) swallows his bitterness, returning to the roots of his home village in the Lay islands to make peace and reconcile with his estranged father. A freelance photographer, he has travelled the world indulging his passion for images of beauty, yet nothing prepares him for the captivating radiance of local islander Ream (Helen Nima), who catches his eye amidst the coastal markets. Mutual attraction is instantaneous and their shared ferry ride from the mainland to Taep’s village engenders a playful nervousness that hints at the burgeoning sparks of unspoken romantic chemistry. However, Taep’s momentary passion is quelled immediately once ashore and Ream is introduced as his father’s new wife. His father, Chaung (Sorapong Chatree), whom all refer to simply as “Chief”, exhibits no softening with age, still the hard and cruel patriarch that he turned his back on a decade before, giving rise to a deeply ingrained malice, as well as long suppressed and bitter family memories.
